The SKNOC is a non-profit, non-governmental sporting organisation governed by a nine member Executive Committee which comprises of:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary General
  • Assistant Secretary General
  • Treasurer
  • Four (4) Executive Members

A new executive is elected every four (4) years by Member Associations at the Quadrennial Meeting, which is held in the months of November of December. However, General Assemblies are convened on an annual basis.

The SKNOC is headed by President Alphonso Bridgewater, Vice President Dennis Knight, Secretary General, Glenville Jeffers and Treasurer Glenn Quinlan.  These gentlemen have presided over the SKNOC for over eight years.  Each has completed tertiary level education, and has been significantly involved in local sports organisations.  The executive positions are entirely voluntary and receive no compensation or remuneration.

The SKNOC became affiliated to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 23rd September 1993.

Principal Activity

Preparation and participation of athletes and affiliated organisations for Olympic and IOC sanctioned programs.

Governing Body and Laws

The affairs of the SKNOC are currently governed by the Constitution of the St Kitts and Nevis Olympic Association dated 27th May 1986 and which was revised and then ratified on Thursday 30th November 2006.

History

Since the inception of the SKNOC in 1986, the SKNOC has facilitated the participation in Olympic Games, Pan American Games, Central American and Caribbean Games, other International events sponsored by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games.

The twin-island Federation has been represented at the last three (3) Olympic Games:

  • 1996:  Atlanta, USA
  • 2000:  Sydney, Australia
  • 2004:  Athens, Greece

At the 2000 Sydney Games, our internationally acclaimed sprinter Kim Collins was a very visible member of the 100 meter finals.  He also won the 100 meter sprint at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002.  The highlights of Kims career at the World Championships are as follows:

2001:    200 meters        Bronze, Edmonton
2003:    100 meters        Gold, Paris
2005:    100 meters        Bronze, Helsinki

SKNOC participated in the Pan American Games of 2003 hosted by the Dominican Republic; we fielded a team of athletes from Tennis, Track and Field and Tae Kwon Do.

In each Olympic year the SKNOC sponsors participation in an Olympic Youth Camp, an event that has as its objectives youth development and international cooperation.  Additionally, each year, we are represented at the International Session for Directors of National Olympic Academies.  The Academy focuses on the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement in general, more particularly, the past, present and future with an analysis from the historical, philosophical and social perspectives.  There is also a special focus on education through sport.  Persons exposed to this training are expected to return locally to help develop the National Olympic Academy.

Locally, each June, the SKNOC hosts Olympic Week which culminates with the Olympic Day Run.

Training
Cognizant of the role of sport as a catalyst for national development, SKNOC has endeavoured to take full advantage of the training opportunities offered by regional and international sporting bodies, on behalf of its affiliate members.

Several sporting organisations have been exposed to training in their respective disciplines and athletes and coaches have taken the opportunity to pursue advanced studies overseas.

The SKNOC affirms the importance of sport, to the physical and social well being of its constituents and will continue to seek out opportunities that will develop its athletes and administrators along these lines.

Conclusion
The hard work and dedication of all the volunteers and staff of the SKNOC and its member affiliates has helped to make SKNOC the unique organisation that it is today.

We will continue to play a pivotal role in the continued improvement of the national sports culture and we re-commit ourselves to this goal.
